But if they wanted to stay somewhat within their comfort zone and simultaneously have a fresh start with an altered Gotham and a new cast of characters, they could do worse than ‘Arkham Beyond.’įollow me on Twitter, on Facebook, and on Tumblr. Have a day and night cycle over the game world. Have Wayne Manor as a home base for Bruce and Batman. Merge the Gotham city maps of Arkham City, Origins and Knight, develop the city a few decades into the future so that it looks kinda like Night City or Nivalis. But part of it is also that I simply want to see Neo-Gotham and McGinnis brought to life after the show made such an impact on me a decade and a half ago.Īt this point, Rocksteady has their free reign of projects with a reputation for turning anything they touch into gold (outside of PC ports), so I doubt this will become a reality. If done at the same quality as the Arkham games, it could be fantastic. Perhaps some of this is just not wanting to let go of Rocksteady’s magnificent handling of Batman. While my knowledge of the series is almost entirely based on the original animated series, I’m sure those pages contain many, many more possible storylines that could be incorporated into a video game. After skipping about a decade, Batman Beyond came back into existence in print in 2010, and has published dozens of issues since. The Dark Knight’s preparedness is equal to none. Batman and gadgets are pretty much synonymous. These names might mean nothing to many, but Rocksteady could bring them out of 1999 and into the limelight.īatman Beyond has enduring appeal to the point where it does currently exist as a comic in the DCU, long after the show has died. By James Robinson Published From the classic Batarang to the mighty Disruptor, here are some of the best gadgets at Bruce Waynes disposal in Rocksteadys Arkham games. A wide-spread threat to Gotham in the form of the radioactive Blight. Trippy Scarecrow-esque Spellbinder sequences. I’m picturing some excellent boss battles against the shape-shifting Inque. And the final reveal of ( Batman Beyond spoilers) Bruce Wayne being Terry McGinnis’s biological father due to Amanda Waller’s ARGUS experiments to replace the aging Batman was a pretty excellent soft ending to the series.Īnd as much as I like Batman’s rogues gallery of villains, I also think it’s time for some fresh blood. The Batman Beyond movie “Return of the Joker” is one of the best DC animated movies I’ve ever seen. The episode “Hooked Up” where villain Spellbinder gets teens addicted to VR sims that are better versions of their real lives has stayed with me to this day and feels more relevant than ever. Though not the most well-known Batman storyline, Batman Beyond has some memorable moments all the same. I think it’s time to make a far-flung jump into the future. But after three Arkham games, we’ve faced practically all of Batman’s traditional foes in one form or another, some of them multiple times, and a few of them are even outright dead by the time Arkham Knight concludes. The Batman made over 700 million dollars at the global box office following its theatrical release, so it should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody that The Batman - Part II will be following. I understand that despite its own TV show and an eventual comic series, Batman Beyond isn’t exactly the most iconic chapter in Batman’s history, and there are many more stories Rocksteady could potentially take on if they weren’t ready to let Batman go just yet.
